Staying safe

If you are aged between 8 and 13, you probably know more about the internet than most adults. Which means you also know that it can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Here are a few simple things you can do to stay safe:

1. Never give out your personal details, because you can never be sure who you are talking to. It could be someone your age, but it could also be an adult who is trying to trick you or hurt you. Never tell anyone on this site:

· where you live

· what school you go to

· your age

· your e-mail address or phone number

· your passwords

2. Use a nickname rather than your real name. That way, if someone makes you feel uncomfortable, they will never know who you really are and can’t ever find you again.

3. Be nice! People can be hurt by comments on the internet, so think carefully before making a comment about someone else. If someone is rude or nasty to you, don't reply to them. Tell your parents or a responsible adult - or contact our team

4. Remember, anyone can view photos and videos you post here, so be careful about uploading images of you, your family or even your mates. And never post anything that makes it obvious where you live or which school you go to.

5. If someone upsets you while using Talk2Croydon, or if you see something that you think is wrong, you can report a photo or video by [ ] (it will be hidden from the site straight away), or contact our team.
